The proposed Asian Development Bank and Bhutan-financed project will combine structural and nonstructural measures to reduce the risk of flooding and riverbank and landslide erosion, accounting for climate impacts in the Omchhu River basin, which covers about 22 km2.

The main objectives
(i)Design and implement climate-resilient flood protection infrastructure;
(ii) Develop holistic measures in the river basin to reduce landslide and sediment-related risks;
(iii) Strengthen the institutional capacity of Phuentsholing Thromde and Dungkhag Administration;
(iv) Enable subsequent riverfront development in appropriate locations. The implementation period of the project is planned to start in November 2025 and end in November 2031.
